I am sorry Sarah, I don't know of anything else you might try.

I would love to know if you try the remedy recommended by Jeff.
I would ask him myself...but he doesn't allow IM or email.

This is one of the times I hate it when a person doesn't allow contact. There is no way to contact him to see if he is for real or just running his mouth.

I allow contact, if you try his remedy....please let me know how it works. I don't have a problem now, but I do have the blue color in my bloodlines and they are prone to hair problems.

Good luck with your baby, and give him an extra hug.
References :
Chihuahua breeder

Poor baby! Make sure that you keep loving on her even if no one else will. Demodex is not contageous in any way...
I've never heard of a natural remedy for Demodex and I'd be very interested to see which veterinary products that you used with no success. The only two things I've seen work are Mitaban dips and oral/injected ivermectin.
The Mitaban dips are the safest way to go for the dog but can get expensive. This medication is not sold over the counter so it has to be done at the vet. They should have a dip every other week until they have at least two negative skin scrapes. This can take literally months and months.
Ivermectin is a medication that some dogs (on an individual basis or breed basis) can be very sensitive to so it is very important NOT to run out and try it on your own even though you can get it at feed stores and the like. If they are sensitive to it or get too much, they WILL die, no if's and's or but's. Certain types of collie's are especially sensitive. Never heard of a doberman but still, alive is the best alternative.
If your vet is responsible, they should do a skin scraping to confirm the diagnosis and then give you a shampoo with benzoyl peroxide in it to help open the pores. They should then offer you one of the two treatments mentioned above.
Good luck with her...Doberman's are wonderful dogs and it sounds like you love her a lot. Hope this helps!
References :
vet tech

my dog had mange...not as severe but recurring. the vet prescribed ivermectin (i think that's the name but i'm not sure) and it cleared it all up...the only prob is that we have to keep her on low doses, esp in the summer so it doesn't come back...we get it at a local animal feed store. I think it is really for cows but works for dogs too. hope this helps.
References :
Yes! THIS ABSOLUTELY WORKS!!! But you'll spend about $20.00.

Combine powdered cloves, powdered wormwood and powdered black walnut hulls, and use to dust and rub in to her skin. Rub her down every other day for 10 days. It kills all parasites.

Available at 'herbalcom.com'. I have used them for years now and they have great herbs at the best prices.
