My 4 month old puppy is sick and the vet says it may be distemper, he was a stray. Any holistic remedies?
December 19th, 2009 | by admin |The Vet said it could be canine influenza but he also said it was a waiting game. Anything we can do to boost his immune system?
Don’t be crazy, this is a serious debilitating if not life threatening condition and highly contagious. Get the dog to the vet for treatment NOW. No OTC meds will work with Distemper. #
Your vet can test to confirm whether or not it is Distemper.

There is nothing you can do to boost his immune system.
The holistic approach to treating distemper results in death. Not something I really consider a cure.

Distemper is nearly always fatal in dogs. Was he not vaccinated? There is nothing to my knowledge that you can do to boost his immune system or anything like that.

I have heard of successful stories with dogs who came down with distemper, but it takes a lot of work on your part. The danger with distemper is not the disease itself, but the fact that puppy becomes dehydrated and that is what could cause death. Because they vomit, have diarrhea, and quit eating and drinking they become incredibly dehydrated. The success stories involve people giving their puppy lots of Pedialite and even with a syringe (to force them to take it). The other thing is to sanitize and sterilize everything because the disease is very contagious. Good luck.

Hello!
We recently adopted a pup from the shelter about 3 1/2 weeks from a shelter and just found out she has distemper (The vet did a PCR test and antibody/inclusion test on her). Our pup has a mild upper respiratory infection with no vomiting, diarrhea, and she is very active so we are hopeful that she will not proceed to the neurological phase. Our vet has given our pup a couple of antibiotics for secondary infections and also pet tinic (sp) which is an oral vitamin supplement to help boost her immune system. Since she is congested we are using saline nose drops on her twice a day that seem to be helping her dry, crusty nose. What symptoms is your dog having since it can be little or many?? We were also advised by our vet to give our pup a quarter of a tablet of mucine x once a day to help clear up her congestion. I recommend mixing in some boiled chicken and brown rice in your dogs dry food to add some extra protein to their diet to help their immune system. Unfort. it is up to the dogs immune system to see if they will recover from this horrible virus or not. Just give your dog much attention and quiet time to recover. Keep me posted on the pup and good luck!!! We are in the same boat!!

Yes, there is something that you can do to boost his immune system!
There is a herbal remedy called Canine Stimmune that you can buy online here: http://www.petwellbeing.com/dog-allergies-p84.cfm
Canine Stimmune will boost your dog’s immune system and help him deal with his canine allergies. It’s also useful in treating a dog’s fatigue or recurring infections.
