are there any natural remedies or cures for gastroesophageal relfux disease?

I have been suffering from this severely. What kinds of foods are recommended to eat? Are there any natural cures? Does medication actually work? I am taking Prevacid.

DGL-DeGlysserized(sp) Licorice tablets. Chew two 20 minutes before meals, if I remember correctly. It forms a protective coating around the stomach and esophagus. Other soothing helpful remedies often include plaintains and marshmallow.

Additional consideration – according to my Naturopath he says often the cause of reflux is not the excess of acid but quit the contrary. The valve needs a high level of acid to signal it to close tight. Not enough acid and the valve doesn’t close properly and the acid leaks out. He frequently prescribes hydrochloric acid for people to take which usually resolves the problem. Tis true, though a little scary.
