Natural Cures for Adhd: Do They Really Work?
November 24th, 2009 | by admin |
If you’re like me, you’re probably a little bit skeptical about natural treatments when you hear about them initially. After all, it sounds too good to be true to be able to cure an illness without any risk of side effects. However, it is actually possible, especially in the case of ADHD. Natural cures for ADHD are highly effective when combined with lifestyle change. They will cure your child’s ADHD, not just suppress its symptoms. Best of all, they do not have any risk of side effects.
The most popular natural treatments for ADHD are dietary therapy, behavioral therapy, and homeopathy. Natural treatments such as these often work best when used in combination. Natural cures work because they attack the problem from different directions and address all lifestyle factors that could be contributing to the problem.
Natural cures for ADHD are effective because they restore imbalances in your child that lead to illness. For example, many children who suffer from ADHD actually have nutritional deficiencies and other issues. The modern diet consists of too many processed foods, sugar, and fat. It’s no surprise that children suffer from diet-related symptoms.
Many parents have great success cutting allergens out of their children’s diet. Eggs, sugar, refined foods, corn, wheat, and chocolate are some of the most common culprits. If you cut these foods out of your child’s diet and see an improvement in your child’s behavior for two consecutive days, you can start adding the foods back in one by one to figure out which ones trigger the symptoms of ADHD. All natural treatments for ADHD that incorporate dietary therapy generally have great success.
When it comes to alleviating symptoms, natural cures for ADHD are highly effective because they restore balance at a cellular level. Studies show that homeopathic formulas are the most effective natural cures. They balance your child’s mood and alleviate behavioral problems. What’s great about homeopathy is that it is non-addictive and can be taken on a regular basis without risk of side effects.
It’s also important to make sure your child is leading a healthy lifestyle in addition to using natural treatments for ADHD. So many children today lead sedentary lifestyles, which when paired with an unhealthy diet they are certainly going to cause behavioral problems. It’s no surprise that ADHD is much more common today than it was 50 years ago.
Homeopathy and a healthy lifestyle are very effective natural cures for ADHD when they are combined with behavioral therapy. A therapist can help your child overcome social awkwardness and harmful behavioral patterns and thoughts so he can have better relationships with his peers and improve his coping mechanisms.
So there you have it. Harsh prescription drugs are certainly not the only treatment option available for ADHD. Drugs only suppress the symptoms of ADHD and do nothing to truly get rid of the disorder. Natural cures for ADHD on the other hand are 100% safe and will help your child overcome the disorder completely. It may take a little extra effort on your part but the dramatic results you will get are certainly worth it. Your child will be happier and healthier than you ever imagined possible.

Natural cures for ADHD?
My son was diagnosed with ADHD. After 6 years of no medication and a lot of problems in school, I gave in and allowed him to be on medication. Within 2 years he has tried 4 different medications- which have not worked. I’ve decided to take him off of the medication and try a natural way of curing it. The doctor told us to try: Vitamin C, E, Magnesium, and Omega 3. My question is how long will it take to notice a difference? I know that it can take 4 weeks or more for natural supplements to get into your system.
I also had him tested for bipolar disorder. He’s seen 5 therapists and 3 of them said he doesn’t have a problem, he is just being a boy.

I heard that stripping sugar from a child’s diet can dramatically help. There are some natural products online that are supposed to help; but there is no guarantee they will work. I would suggest finding a licensed alternative or holistic physician in your area. There may be internet communities that can suggest a reliable doctor.

A difference might never be noticed if he is still being fed the things that cause the ADHD to begin with. Limit, or better yet eliminate, processed foods. Preservatives, dyes, and sugar in large quantities have all been linked to ADHD. Studies show that 80% of people with ADHD can eliminate their symptoms through dietary changes.

It’s funny how some people only take what doctors and nutritionists have been centuries when they are looking to fix problems, huh?
I wouldn’t be surprised if those would help because many people are deficient in antioxidants (like vitamins C and E), Magnesium is good for many metabolic processes in the body (including muscle health), and Fish Oil is good for all sorts of things including brain health.
You may also get a really big benefit from removing most of the sugar from his diet if you haven’t already, and that’ll include a lot of processed foods.
That being said, all natural supplements really help with is providing nutrients that your body needs every day, and are more for preventative because of that. In order to "repair damage" from lack of nutrients, it really depends on the amount of damage… you could notice some benefits within a few days, or a few months. No matter how much time it takes, you will notice some benefits over time, even if it’s not the perfect thing for his ADHD. Good luck!

please do a internet search on juvenile bi-polar disorder. read it all. 85% of adhd children does not have adhd.
#1 reason for research.: the meds for adhd are anphetimines, 25% of the death of children with adhd are due to drug overdose.
Question ? has the doctor ever said up his dose?( due to meds not working).

My oldest son is autistic with adhd. I unfortunately had him on Ritalin la for a short period of time. over the course of a year the doctors had up’d his dose to within 5 mg of the max dose. We had very little therapeutic effects, but tons of nasty side effects. I took him off it and started a regimen of kava kava & passion flower. (as well as milk thistle seed to repair the damage to the liver done by the ritalin). We saw results within 1 week. Within a few months he no longer needed a daily dose, HE only requested it on stressful days when he felt he needed it. After about a year, he no longer required anything. He’s been with out anything for 2 years now (this was 3 years ago). The additional vitamin supplements certainly won’t hurt anything, and will be fine to take with the herbs. Best wishes….

A Yahoo web search for "attention deficit hyperactivity disorder" + "natural remedies" will yield at least 4,456 results.

First of all, stop taking him to conventional doctors. See if you can get him in with a cranial therapist who has a PhD. Second of all, listen to all the advice you have received as far as diet is concerned!!! Try to put him on a brown rice diet over the next long break he has. After a few days you can add a new food every four days. If things get better then you will know. Keep him away from anything processed, anything that contains dairy, wheat, soy, corn, sugar (especially high fructose corn syrup). Get him some hard core exercises at least a couple of hours a day. Don’t forget the vitamins and D and antioxidants.
