Frequent small meals are preferable to three big ones. And as is true for everyone, lying down after eating should be avoided, as this causes stomach acids to wash back up to into the throat. A good herb for heartburn is slippery elm. One teaspoon of the powder can be added to water or juice, or lozenges can be taken throughout the day. Papaya enzymes are another handy item to have available. Also, two to three drops of diluted peppermint oil, placed on the back of the tongue, may be relieve this problem.
Here is a list of herbs you can find at most health food stores :
    Slippery Elm
    Chamomile Tea’
    Lemon Balm
    Meadowsweet

Some people say peppermint but for me, I go for a 6 oz glass of water with about 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in it. Drink it down (it doesn’t taste good but you can stand it) and then you will burp. After you burp your heartburn will be gone. Just don’t do it too often because of the sodium.

Heartburn is to much acid in your stomach and/or esophagus
I have found just chewing a stick of gum helps almost every time.
You have special glands in your mouth that work only when you chew and this special "spit" has a high content of some kind of base and it acts a just like baking soda and vinegar without the fizz. So less acid…less heartburn. But be careful I had a ulcer that started to bleed, I spent 2 weeks laying in a hospital bed, so if you problem doesn’t go away or happens "all the time" please go see a Doctor

Stop eating what cases the problem. Try to avoid wheat and yeast products. See if it helps.

Try lemon juice in water. Amazingly enough it works quite well for me.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," my mom always told me. As long as there isn’t any sugar in the tomatoe sauce, there shouldn’t be an acidic reaction to the pizza, so you could purchase sauce that doesn’t have any. However, if you eat it out, then there are three remedies that I know of.

1). ***Put 1 Tablespoon of Chlorophyll, (mint flavor is my favorite), in a glass of room temperature water and drink.

2). ***Take 1 Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar and 1 teaspoon of Organic honey, (regular will work too, but try to get it uncooked) in a glass of water. Drink slowly. It will also help an upset stomach.

3). A Macrobiotic remedy is to make a tea from a salted plum, called Umeboshi by taking half of the plum, cutting it up into fine pieces (You can also add the pit to the tea) and placing that and 1 teaspoon of Kuzu Root to 6 oz. of purified water in a small saucepan. Add a few drops of Shoyu Soy sauce. Stirring continuously, bring to a simmer at which time the water will turn from white to translucent. Pour into a cup and drink all of the ingredients. (You can suck on the pit if you have used it) Salt in the plum alkalinizes the blood and excess acid in the stomach. Kuzu root helps to strengthen the system and the stomach. You may have difficulty with this recipe, only because you are not eating in a macrobiotic fashion.

The first two answers are the best for heartburn. Good luck and hope you feel better.

Herbs won’t do it as you need to neutralize the acid. Bicarbonate (baking soda) is best.
